Slurry backfill flowing from the chute into a utility trench

Slurry Backfill & Flowable Fill

Most Southern California agencies want street trenches backfilled with slurry — and for good reason. Flowable fill (CLSM) flows into the trench, fills every void around the pipe, and self-compacts, so there’s no compaction testing to wait on and no settlement or trench dip showing up in the pavement a year later.

It sets up fast enough to keep the paving schedule, and it can be excavated later if the utility ever needs to be reached again. We place slurry backfill to the agency’s mix and strength spec — it’s a standard part of our trenching operation, not a subcontracted afterthought.
